                                                      TECHNICAL

                  The principles

A laser beam is split into two separate

beams - a reference beam and an object beam.

The reference beam shines directly on the holo

plate, the object beam reaches the holoplate

after reflection with the object.

At the holoplate interference between  the two

laserbeams takes place and a fringe pattern is

formed.

This pattern is only visible after the chemical

development process.

When you illuminate a developed holoplate

with normal white light or with laser light, the

 three dimensional image will appear

                      THE TECHNIQUE

At home I work with a diversity of lenses and mirrors.

A HeNe laser 50 mw (Spectra-Physics 125), a 50 mw

laserdiode, and a 100 mw green laser (Coherent Compass

 DPSS C315M).

All this equipment is not needed for making  simple

holograms -  it can be done much  more simply and cheaply.

                          Developer chemistry

Developing a holographic plate is similar to

the process of developing  black and white film.

There are several methods.

I usually work with pyrogallol  and sodium carbonate

to develop and
potassium dichromate for bleaching.
